HOSPITAL PROFILE.

A Kentucky-based community healthcare provider with 55 beds.

SITUATION.

After the hospital’s general surgeon resigned, it was faced with a substantial gap in coverage and service offerings. In an effort to mitigate the risk of providing poor patient care, the board elected to refer all elective procedures to local competing hospitals – which resulted to substantial loss in revenue, diminished patient confidence and a decrease in overall patient satisfaction.

THE MEDICUS SOLUTION.

As a strategic partner, Medicus became a natural extension of the hospital and offered a 360° solution that helped bring service lines back into the hospital by:

  • providing 2 FTEs to cover patient volume;
  • taking over the day-to-day management of the schedule;
  • overseeing all on-boarding, credentialing and travel for supplemental physicians; and
  • being a single point of contact for all the hospital’s general surgery staffing needs.

As a direct result, this Kentucky-based hospital has expanded its service lines, increased patient volume, strengthened its community reputation, and successfully partnered with local practices to increase the number of patient referrals. Given the success of the project and the level of quality the Medicus surgeon provided, the hospital decided to hire the physician as a permanent employee.
