Medicus is excited to celebrate National Midwifery Week from October 1-7, 2023. The theme for this year is "Midwives-strengthening communities," highlighting midwives committed to equitable, ethical, accessible, and quality healthcare for all.

National Midwifery Week was created by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) to celebrate and recognize midwives and midwife-led care, calling attention to their importance in healthcare.

Midwife's Impact In Healthcare

Midwives provide vital healthcare throughout a woman's life, from reproductive age to menopause and beyond. Their role is crucial in improving healthcare for women, families, and communities, helping to reduce disparities. They offer a broad spectrum of reproductive care, including childbirth, newborn care, and preventive and contraceptive services.

Empowering Women & Families: Midwives are dedicated to supporting women during labor, delivery, and postpartum care. They provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, and emotional well-being, ensuring expectant mothers have the knowledge to make informed health decisions.

Building Strong Communities: A distinctive strength of midwifery care lies in its community-oriented approach. Midwives collaborate closely with families, offering education and resources to promote maternal and infant health. They empower women to actively participate in healthcare and make choices aligned with their values, ensuring access to birth choices and full-spectrum reproductive healthcare.

Addressing Healthcare Disparities: Midwives strive to ensure all individuals have access to quality healthcare. By providing care and advocating for equitable practices, midwives contribute to reducing health inequities and improving overall community health.
